WWE Champion CM Punk won the Raw Elimination Chamber Match
MILWAUKEE – Chris Jericho didn’t even have a chance to react. He was totally out cold.
On this night, the very Superstar who Jericho ripped as a “wannabe,” the man who he disrespected at every opportunity, was the only one who could lay claim to being the “Best in the World”: WWE Champion CM Punk.
The Straight Edge Superstar knocked Jericho unconscious with a kick to the back of the head, and stood tall above four other fearsome contenders, to retain his title in the grueling Raw Elimination Chamber Match.
It was one of Punk’s most physically taxing battles to overcome in his WWE career, not only because of the exhausting nature of the Elimination Chamber Match, but the emotional vendetta that he had to withstand in order to keep the championship around his waist.
For those unaware of the rules, the Elimination Chamber Match begins with two participants in a ring enclosed in the Chamber structure, while the remaining four are held within pods in each corner of the Chamber. The other four Superstars are randomly released from their pods into the contest at five-minute intervals. The objective is simple, but exceptionally tough: Eliminate each opponent via pinfall or submission, forcing each to leave the Chamber. The last man standing is the winner.
Punk started off the match first against Kofi Kingston. Despite a couple of crafty acrobatic moves by Kingston, The Straight Edge Superstar dished out some punishing blows, sending Kingston into one of the pods headfirst and suplexing him on the hard steel floor of the Chamber.
Dolph Ziggler was the third to enter, and immediately went after the WWE Champion, striking him repeatedly and, of course, showing off while doing it, by using the Chamber’s chains to do pull-ups. The injection of Ziggler into the match added a new element of danger, as Punk and Kingston suffered a very painful mid-air collision while gunning for The Show-Off.
R-Truth, as reckless as ever, entered fourth and wasted no time with a flurry of wild punches and high-risk maneuvers. Truth didn’t last long, though, being quickly eliminated by Punk after a top-rope elbow drop.
The Miz entered fifth and went to work on Kingston and Ziggler, driving them both onto the steel floor of the Chamber. Then, right as Punk seemed to have The Miz ready to tap in the Anaconda Vise, Jericho’s pod opened up and he tried to target Punk with two of his most devastating maneuvers: the Walls of Jericho and the Lionsault.
Jericho later proved why he is WWE’s all-time leader in eliminations when he landed a Codebreaker on Ziggler and ousted The Show-Off – his ninth all-time elimination. Shortly thereafter, he returned his fury to Punk by repeatedly slamming one of the pod doors on The Straight Edge Superstar.
Kingston stunned the crowd by diving off the top of the pod onto The Miz and Punk before Jericho made Kingston tap with the Walls of Jericho. Seemingly out to prove a point, Jericho refused to let go of the hold, and then inflicted more punishment on Kingston by tossing him out of the Chamber hard.
Taking his eyes off Punk was a big mistake. Jericho was rendered unconscious by a vicious kick to the head from the WWE Champion and landed outside of the Chamber, physically unable to continue. As concerned officials attended to Jericho on the outside, Punk was left alone with The Miz on the inside as the final two contenders.
The Miz thought he had Punk beat following a Skullcrushing Finale, but The Second City Savior amazingly survived the blow and kicked out of a pinfall attempt. A frustrated Miz relentlessly taunted the champ, and then the crowd, before Punk caught him by surprise. The Straight Edge Superstar delivered Go To Sleep and pinned The Miz, defying the odds and escaping the 30-plus minute war as the reigning WWE Champion.
It remains to be seen who will challenge Punk in six weeks at WrestleMania XXVIII, but you can be sure Jericho will be out for his revenge. Once he comes to his senses, that is.
CM Punk appears on the latest episode of Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast and confirmed that WWE is working on a DVD about his career that will be released later this year. The podcast is available at www.welovecolt.com
Chicago Tribune reported in November that WWE was filming a “straight-to-DVD documentary” on Punk at the time. Source: rajah.com
CM Punk introduced Colt Cabana’s latest podcast (uploaded yesterday), in which he revealed his WWE DVD project is officially on the way and that he’s heavily involved.
The 3-Disc DVD was first confirmed as being in the works back in November, and CM Punk’s big announcement on Colt Cabana’s podcast was that the release has officially been “given the green light” by WWE. On there he spoke of not wanting to keep the DVD a surprise because of his desire to make it extra special in every way for the fans, his chance to tell his story and do all kinds of wacky stuff at the same time.
Regarding the DVD’s format and content Punk says it will be, “the old documentary/life story/follow me around with a camera to find out what I’m really like behind the scenes”. Sounds to us like The John Cena Experience or Randy Orton: Evolution of a Predator. He confirmed he’s the one picking the matches, which personalities are to be interviewed for the documentary portion and that he was told by WWE he’s in charge fully.
Whilst most WWE Superstars who get the DVD treatment often say they have creative control, it looks like he is really going for it. “I’ve already made a lot of people angry with the decisions made with the DVD”, says Punk.
He recalls the story of setting aside time to watch the recent Randy Orton and Chris Jericho sets (supposedly the first WWE DVD superstar documentaries of his co-workers that he has ever watched), and then sending a “ridiculously long” email to the WWE employees assigned to the project about what he wants for his.
The first thing on his list was hating the usual narrators heard in the background and the choices of music. For his own DVD, Punk says he is refusing to have any part of his life or career highlighted with a soundtrack from “crappy bands like Switchfoot”. Instead, he intends to be going with music from bands he actually likes and is friends with.
Expect the new CM Punk set to be released on both DVD and Blu-ray formats later in the year. Source: www.wwedvdnews.com (you can also listen to the broadcast on that wwedvdnews site as well)
In this WWE.com video, WWE Champion CM Punk evaluates how his match with Dolph Ziggler went Sunday night, and how he would grade the match’s guest official, Raw Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis.
“Did he call it down the middle?” Punk asks. “The way I saw it, John Laurinaitis was not only trying to save his job, he was trying to screw mine as Best in the World, as WWE Champion. There’s at least three times I had that match won prior to me actually winning it that he was completely out of position doing God knows what. I give an F, an F-minus.“

Special Guest Referee: John Laurinaitis
CM Punk (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
John Laurinaitis is the first man to make his way out to the ring. He’s wearing a sleeveless referees shirt, but unlike Vince McMahon, his arms aren’t anything worth showing off. He gets a lot of boos as he makes his way out with no music. He’s got a mic and he introduces himself and gives his title, even though he was just introduced. He says even though he was assigned the referee of the match, in the interest of fairness, he’s decided that he’ll officiate outside of the ring, and another WWE official will referee things inside of the ring. Another ref makes his way down to the ring quickly.
Ziggler is the first man to make his way out to the ring, accompanied by Vickie Guerrero. Dolph gets a pretty nice reaction from the crowd, but as soon as his music stops, the chants for Punk are overwhelming. Punk’s music hits, and the champion makes his way out to the ring to a lot of love from the crowd.
Justin Roberts does formal ring introductions for both men, and it looks like we’re ready to begin.
Before the bell rings, Laurinaitis makes his way into the ring and ejects Vickie Guerrero from ringside. Vickie makes her way to the back, screaming the whole way. The bell rings and Punk and Ziggler circle each other before locking up. Punk rolls up Ziggler for one. Both men test each other, but Ziggler punches Punk. Ziggler goes for the rocker dropper but Punk moves and shoulders Ziggler. Ziggler fights out and both men stare each other down. We get another lock up and Punk backs Ziggler into the ropes and gives a clean break. Punk catches Ziggler with a right and a stiff kick to the thigh. Ziggler knocks Punk away and struts to show off. CHICAGO — MMAFighting.com caught up with WWE champion CM Punk Thursday evening to discuss his relationship with Chael Sonnen, his thoughts on UFC on FOX 2, his take on Brock Lesnar’s potential return to WWE, whether he would ever fight in an MMA fight, and the connection between MMA and pro wrestling.
WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler (Special Guest Referee John Laurinaitis)
At the 25th anniversary of the WWE Royal Rumble, CM Punk will defend his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler in a highly anticipated title bout. In addition to making the match, Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis declared he would be the special referee. For Punk, the Royal Rumble provides the opportunity not only to put the loudmouth challenger in his place, but also to remain under the skin of Mr. Laurinaitis. For Dolph Ziggler, the Rumble allows the WWE’s resident showoff the chance to turn words into actions and walk out of St. Louis with the WWE Championship However, after CM Punk defeated Jack Swagger on WWE Raw SuperShow, Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger will be banned from ringside.
After weeks of back-and-forth between the two Superstars that included the showoff challenger stating his intent to beat Punk and become a “real” champion, Punk and Ziggler will finally settle their score at the Rumble, further ensuring that the pay-per-view’s 25th year will be a memorable one.
Perhaps the most egregious affront to The Straight Edge Superstar’s well-being during the course of the past month came during the final Monday Night Raw of 2011. With the cards stacked squarely against him by Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis, The Second City Savior faced an uphill battle to make sure his hometown Chicago faithful left the arena happy. In the second of three title-free Gauntlet Matches scheduled by Laurinaitis, Punk faced Ziggler after defeating Jack Swagger just minutes earlier.
After an untimely distraction from Raw’s esteemed Interim General Manager, Ziggler hit a devastating Zig Zag, pinned Punk and momentarily silenced The Voice of the Voiceless. Furthermore, in typical Ziggler fashion, the braggart paraded around Chicago’s Allstate Arena with Punk‘s WWE Championship in hand, leaving its true owner to watch intently from inside the ring.
On the first Monday Night Raw of 2012, the WWE Universe got another glimpse of Punk vs. Ziggler — this time for the WWE Championship. However, instead of a decisive end to this budding rivalry, tensions ramped up as a result of a Mr. Laurinaitis causing the WWE Champion to be counted out. Now these two outspoken Superstars will collide in St. Louis on January 29th at the Royal Rumble with the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Raw’s Interim GM in the middle, elevating both rivalries to new heights.
Will Mr. Laurinaitis remain fair and impartial? In a stunning declaration on the Jan. 16 Raw SuperShow, the Interim Raw GM said he will try to screw Punk!
Can The Second City Savior overcome Laurinaitis’ officiating and put his Royal Rumble opponent to sleep and retain his title when it matters most? Or will the WWE Universe have to get used to hearing a whole lot more bragging by Ziggler (and, by proxy, his overly vocal and heavily involved manager, Vickie Guerrero) in 2012? Find out at the 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble Sunday, Jan. 29, live on pay-per-view.

Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis denied Mick Foley’s request to be in the Royal Rumble Match
After Mick Foley kicked off Raw SuperShow by expressing his desire to be in the 2012 Royal Rumble Match – so that his two kids could see him compete – he was quickly criticized for such a lofty dream by former United States Champion Dolph Ziggler. Foley clarified that his goal was to be in the Royal Rumble Match to win it. After more harsh words for the WWE Legend, Ziggler told Foley to “just go away.”
Next, Ziggler’s Royal Rumble opponent, WWE Champion CM Punk, came out to greet his fellow “unconventional” Superstar, pointing out that neither hide behind a woman. The WWE Champion also called Ziggler out for having the GM in his back pocket for their match at Royal Rumble.
As tensions grew in the ring, Laurinaitis emerged and said although he considered Foley’s request to be in the Royal Rumble Match, his answer was “no”! After the blunt answer, Vickie cackled in Foley’s face.
Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler & David Otunga def. Chris Jericho, WWE Champion CM Punk & World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan
In a marquee main event featuring some of Raw’s biggest Superstars, the odds changed when a fired up Chris Jericho curiously tagged out and simply walked away from the match. The balance of power shifted again, when World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry’s fight took them away from the ring. To even the odds, Mick Foley joined the fray … claiming Laurinaitis gave him permission.
After a DDT, followed by Mr. Socko, Foley put away Otunga for the win … or so he thought.
After the bell, John Laurinaitis came to the ring and announced he never gave Foley permission to be the match and reversed the decision. After the controversial call, Punk berated the GM for being uncharismatic and vanilla. But Laurinaitis, snapped and declared he would soon be the permanent GM and he will not be intimated by Punk. Things came to a head when Foley forced the GM to admit he’s going to screw Punk at Royal Rumble.
“Damn right I will,” Laurinaitis declared, then smashed Foley in the head with the mic!
